Personal Mythologies
These slides were taken by my grandfather in churchill, in a way they are a kind of record of a personal mythology for me, as I grew up with stories about polar bears and cold winters up north in Churchill Manitoba. Some of the images combine photos of people with those of polar bears, making it seem as if they are in the same picture together, a few are actually quite convincing, but in contrast to these there are some with people floating upside down in the sky or in other combinations that indicate the fictitious nature of these images and the idea of different levels of reality and fiction. These distortions that take place through time and memory create a nostalgic, though possibly inaccurate vision of the past.
